AROUND THE WEB:

— To the disbelief of most, baseball rookie Tim Tebow hit a home run in his first official minor league at-bat on Thursday.

The former NFL quarterback and current outfielder for the Class-A Columbia Fireflies smacked a two-run homer in the second inning of his team’s 14-7 win over the Augusta GreenJackets.

He was a one-hit wonder, however, as he grounded out and struck out twice in his subsequent at-bats.

“I know so many people want to sensationalize it. But for me, it was just one day. One opportunity – the first of a lot of games,” Tebow said. “It’s never as good as it seems. It’s never as bad as it seems, right? You can go from a first at-bat home run to striking out. Don’t get caught up in the little things, the things people are saying when I leave here, and social media, or whatever y’all write – no offense, but I won’t read it!”

Tebow’s excitement was tempered, but he said his teammates were thrilled.

“Everybody was so excited and happy for me,” he said. “One of the guys comes up and gives me a big hug and says, ‘This is one of the best moments I’ve ever had!’ It was just fun.”

Rob Gronkowski raps on Eminem’s Sirius XM station, is worst rapper of all time 04.06.17 at 2:13 pm ET
By   |  Comments Off on Rob Gronkowski raps on Eminem’s Sirius XM station, is worst rapper of all time

TMZ SportsRob Gronkowski is no Eminem … but he tried.

The NFL star ht up DJ Whoo Kid’s “Whoolywood Shuffle” show with his WWE superstar pal, Mojo Rawley — and decided to bust out a few freestyle bars over Biggie Smalls’ “Hypnoitze” beat.

He rapped about Super Bowl rings. He rapped about chicks. He rapped about doorbells.

At the end, Gronk bragged that he wasn’t bad for a “big a– white boy.”

You be the judge.

WHERE TO BEGIN.

He started with “Yo, check me out” which is freestyle rap suicide.

Then he rhymed “ring” with “ring.” As in, “I’ve got a Super Bowl ring/ Everybody coming to my house/ I can hear the doorbell ring.” It really doesn’t get much worse.

But it does. A lot of the rest of this masterpiece is bleeped out, but based on the context I’m guessing he was saying a bunch of stuff about his penis. During the audible lines, he put the “g” on the end of words, like “going,” and his flow was not smooth at all.

To make matters worse, Gronk had a piece of paper in his hand which means he must have planned some of this out ahead of time.

Props for the effort, but Gronk the most horrible rapper on the planet.

He kind of sounded like Blizzard Man, only even worse:

Irvin is being investigated for rape after a 27 year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting him in a Florida hotel room on March 21.

His accuser told police she believes Irvin drugged her and raped her at the hotel after a night out with him at a bar.

Irvin’s lawyer has also vehemently denied the allegations.

Tom Brady missing jersey tip reportedly came from 19-year-old 04.05.17 at 10:52 am ET
By   |  Comments Off on Tom Brady missing jersey tip reportedly came from 19-year-old

TMZ SportsThe man who led authorities to the stolen Tom Brady Super Bowl jerseys is a 19-year-old Pats fan … who reportedly tipped off the feds during a bizarre business deal with Mauricio Ortega.

Meet Dylan Wagner — a sports memorabilia collector who had been in contact with Ortega after selling him a jersey on eBay, this according to WBZ-TV.

Wagner says Ortega sent him roughly 30 photos of his jersey collection to show off — and that’s when he noticed what appeared to be an authentic Tom Brady Super Bowl 49 jersey front and center.

Wagner says he had read the SB49 jersey had gone missing — so he pressed Ortega about how he got it. Ortega’s response, “I’ll tell you later.”

Wagner says he went to a friend who happens to be an ATF special agent — and that guy passed the info to the FBI. Wagner says he later provided the FBI with addresses for Ortega.’

What’s crazier … Ortega’s collection consists of jerseys from Joe Montana, Steve Young, Deion Branch and more. Stolen? No idea yet.

I’m willing to bet the $500,000 value of Brady’s jersey that the rest of those jerseys were stolen somehow.

Mauricio Ortega is the most self-assured man on the planet with his “I’ll tell you later,” but wouldn’t you be too if you pulled off a heist like this so easily TWICE even with multiple cameras watching you and a ton of people around? This guy must have felt like he can get away with anything because he could and he did.

Because of this sense of invincibility, he probably never thought a teenager would be the one to blow up his spot. But of course, this particular teenager just happens to be a memorabilia collector who is also friends with an ATF special agent and could identify an authentic Tom Brady jersey and pass the info on to the right place.

The next step is to find out how Ortega has been doing this for years and years without getting caught. Watching that video of him stealing Brady’s jersey so calmly and brazenly it’s no surprise to find he’s done this a million times before.

The lesson here: you don’t steal from Tom Brady (a second time) and get away with it.

AROUND THE WEB:

–In the strangest of circumstances, Cardinals outfielder Stephen Piscotty was hit by the ball on three separate occasions in one inning during St. Louis’ 2-1 loss to the Cubs Tuesday night.

During his at bat in the fifth inning, Piscotty was hit on the right elbow by a pitch from Jake Arrieta and took first base. He then advanced to second on a wild pitch but the throw to second from catcher Willson Contreras hit Piscotty in the left elbow. The final blow came when Piscotty scored on an infield hit by Kolten Wong. While sliding into home plate, Piscotty was hit in the head by the throw home from second baseman Javier Baez.

Piscotty exited the game and the Cardinals announced he suffered a head contusion.

“The trainers asked him a lot of questions. He answered everything fine,” manager Mike Matheny said after the game. “It just rung his bell, which we’ll find out what exactly that means when the doctors give him a better test than just us asking him questions on the field. But he was coherent.”

According to the MLB concussion protocol, the Cardinals would place Piscotty on the seven-day disabled list if he is found to have a concussion.

Piscotty signed a six-year, $33.5 million contract extension with the Cardinals on Monday.

AROUND THE WEB:

— In an email sent on Saturday to “The Chronicle of Higher Education,” Penn State trustee Albert L. Lord said he “is running out of sympathy” for the “so-called” victims of sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky.

Lord also defended former Penn State president Graham Spanier in the email. Spanier was convicted last week of one count of child endangerment for his mishandling of complaints against Sandusky. He was found not guilty of conspiracy and a second count of child endangerment. He has stated he was never informed of Sandusky’s abuse.

“Running out of sympathy for 35 yr old, so-called victims with 7 digit net worth,” Lord wrote in the email. “Do not understand why they were so prominent in trial. As you learned, Graham Spanier never knew Sandusky abused anyone.”

“Al Lord’s comments are personal and do not represent the opinions of the board or the university,” Ira M. Lubert, the chairman of Penn State’s Board of Trustees, said in a statement. “The sentiments of the board and university leadership were expressed in the very first line of the statement released by Penn State: First and foremost, our thoughts remain with the victims of Jerry Sandusky.”

Lord, an alumni-elected trustee member, is a former CEO of Sallie Mae and is currently seeking re-election to the board of trustees. The election will conclude on May 4.

AROUND THE WEB:

— In their first show back from the baseball offseason, the hosts of the MLB on Fox are already taking jabs at each other.

Pete Rose routinely made jokes about his co-host A-Rod during the postseason last year and it seems things are no different this year.

In their return Monday night, Pete Rose made a joke about A-Rod’s relationship with Jennifer Lopez.

“You’re about as close to J-Lo as you’re gonna get,” Rose said to the former Yankee.

Fox was apparently ready for this joke.

“I found a tabloid in New York that says differently, Pete,” Kevin Burkhardt said. “This was in the papers recently.”

They then showed a graphic of a fake magazine cover showing J-Lo and Rose reported to be dating.

All four co-hosts, including Frank Thomas, laughed and A-Rod said, “You didn’t tell me about that, Petey.”

“I didn’t know about it,” Rose replied.

I bet A-Rod is thrilled he took this job full time.
